Manchester United have announced the signing of Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Italian club Bologna. The 21-year-old joins the Red Devils on a four-and-a-half-year contract for a reported fee of €10 million.
Manager Erik ten Hag has been in search of an additional attacking option following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in November. Zirkzee arrives at Old Trafford with a solid goal-scoring record, having netted 11 times in 28 Serie A appearances for Bologna.
Zirkzee, who can play both as a center-forward and as a winger, emerged as one of the most promising young forwards in the Netherlands during his time at Feyenoord. He won the Eredivisie Golden Boot in the 2020-21 season with 19 goals.
Zirkzee has also represented the Netherlands at various youth levels, scoring 14 goals in 35 appearances. He made his senior debut in 2022 and has since earned three caps for his country.
The Dutch striker is expected to provide competition for the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Alejandro Garnacho at United. His pace, strength, and clinical finishing will add a new dimension to the Red Devils’ attack.
“Joshua is a talented young striker with a good eye for goal,” said manager Erik ten Hag. “He has the qualities we are looking for and we believe he can contribute to our success in the years to come.”
“I am very excited to join Manchester United,” said Zirkzee. “This is a dream come true for me. I am looking forward to working with Erik ten Hag and my new teammates. I hope to contribute my best and help the club achieve its goals.”
The signing of Zirkzee is a significant boost for Manchester United’s attacking depth. The Dutchman brings with him a proven goal-scoring record and has the potential to become a fan favorite at Old Trafford.
