AMES, Iowa (AP) – After a breakout performance in the Cyclones’ historic victory over Iowa, redshirt sophomore Rocco Becht has emerged as a beacon of confidence for Iowa State Football.
Becht arrived in Ames as a highly touted recruit but struggled to find a consistent role in his first two seasons. Despite setbacks, he remained patient and dedicated to his craft.
“I knew I had the talent,” Becht said. “I just needed to trust the coaches and keep working hard. My time would come.”
In Iowa State’s 14-10 upset of Iowa on September 10, Becht recorded eight receptions for 116 yards, including a crucial 32-yard catch on a fourth-and-one late in the fourth quarter.
“Rocco is a special talent,” said head coach Matt Campbell. “He has great hands, runs crisp routes, and has a knack for making big plays.”
Beyond his physical abilities, Becht has also exhibited a remarkable growth in his mindset. He credits his coaches and teammates for fostering a culture of belief and accountability.
“The coaches have really helped me develop both on and off the field,” Becht said. “They’ve taught me the importance of staying positive and never giving up.”
Becht’s confidence has been contagious for the entire Iowa State team. The Cyclones are now 2-0 and have a legitimate chance to achieve their first 10-win season since 2000.
“Rocco is a leader on this team,” said senior quarterback Brock Purdy. “His confidence gives us all a boost, and it shows up in our play.”
As Iowa State enters conference play, Becht will be a key target for Purdy and the high-scoring Cyclone offense. With his newfound confidence and maturity, he is poised to make even more significant contributions to the team’s success.
