Blue Jackets Acquire D Daemon Hunt, Draft Picks From Minnesota

Daemon Hunt, 24, joins the Blue Jackets after spending the past three seasons with the Wild. The young blueliner has shown flashes of offensive potential, recording 13 points in 56 games this season. Hunt is known for his physical presence and strong defensive game, making him a valuable addition to Columbus’ blue line.

In addition to Hunt, the Blue Jackets received a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 fourth-round pick from the Wild. These picks will provide Columbus with flexibility in future drafts and help replenish their prospect pool.

The Wild, in return, have acquired future considerations from the Blue Jackets. The nature of these considerations has not been disclosed, but they could include future draft picks or a player swap at a later date.

“We are excited to add Daemon Hunt to our team,” said Blue Jackets General Manager Brad Larsen. “His physicality and defensive instincts will be a valuable asset to our lineup. The draft picks we acquired will also give us more options in the future.”

“We wish Daemon well in Columbus,” said Wild General Manager Bill Guerin. “He has been a valuable member of our team, and we are confident that he will continue to succeed in his new surroundings. The future considerations we received will help us build for the future.”

The trade between the Blue Jackets and Wild is a win-win for both teams. Columbus gets a young, promising defenseman and some additional draft capital, while Minnesota acquires assets that could help them in the future. The Blue Jackets are hoping that Hunt can be a key contributor to their playoff push, while the Wild are looking to the future with the draft picks they acquired.
