Bilbao Cruses Past Elfsborg To Join Lazio Atop Europa League Standings


 

Dominant Display

Bilbao dominated the match from the outset, controlling possession and creating numerous chances. They broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute through Oihan Sancet, who pounced on a rebound after Elfsborg goalkeeper Tim Rönning had parried Raúl García’s shot.

Elfsborg’s Respite

Elfsborg managed to equalize in the 37th minute with a fine strike from Kristofer Lundholm. However, Bilbao restored their lead just before halftime through Ander Herrera, whose looping header from a corner proved too strong for Rönning.

Bilbao’s Resilience

In the second half, Elfsborg pushed for an equalizer but Bilbao remained resilient, defending stoutly and limiting the visitors to half-chances. Bilbao’s victory was sealed in the 88th minute when substitute Gorka Guruzeta fired home from close range after excellent work down the left flank by Dani García.
